About Us

UMO is a stealth-mode FinTech venture aiming to evolve the way people experience money by building a unified, AI-powered, yet deeply human modern money platform across fiat, crypto, and investments - subject to regulatory approvals. The platform is being designed to break down traditional barriers to money across access, assets, and experience, enabling simpler, more adaptive ways for people to interact with financial services.

We are currently developing our MVP and navigating licensing requirements, with a multidisciplinary team of 100+ people representing 20+ nationalities. With our headquarters in the UAE and offices in Portugal and Ukraine, we are united behind a shared ambition and a relentless focus on serving our customers

About the Role

We are looking for a Data Technical Lead with a strong engineering DNA in Golang to own the technical direction of our data platform. In this role, you will be the bridge between high-performance backend engineering and complex data infrastructure.

You will lead the design of distributed systems, ensuring that our data flows are scalable, reliable, and consistent across multiple regions. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will not only architect systems but also set the gold standard for Go development, mentor engineers, and leverage AI-assisted development (Claude/Cursor) to accelerate delivery.

Technology Stack:

  • Core Languages: Golang (Primary), TypeScript
  • Data & Storage: PostgreSQL, Redis, ClickHouse
  • Streaming & Messaging: Kafka (Core), Kafka Connect (CDC), NATS, RabbitMQ, Redis Streams
  • AI Tooling: Claude, Cursor (custom rules, skills management)
  • Transport & Integration: gRPC, HTTP, WebSockets
  • Infrastructure: Docker, Linux, Kubernetes
  • Monitoring: Prometheus, Grafana, Loki

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and evolve the architecture of high-load data platforms and services.
  • Architect and build robust ETL/ELT pipelines and real-time data processing services using Golang.
  • Design and own data flows and storage strategies for multiregional environments.
  • Lead the development of event-driven systems, focusing on low latency and high throughput.
  • Integrate and optimize AI Agents into the engineering workflow, managing rules, skills, and prompts to enhance team productivity.
  • Ensure data consistency, reliability, and observability across the entire stack.
  • Review code and provide technical mentorship to engineers (Golang/TypeScript).
  • Make and document critical architectural decisions and technical trade-offs.

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering with a focus on data-intensive systems.
  • Expert-level Golang: Deep understanding of concurrency patterns, performance tuning, and idiomatic Go.
  • Data Streaming Expert: Proven track record with Kafka (including Kafka Connect) and event-driven architectures.
  • Pipeline Mastery: Extensive experience building and maintaining complex ETL/ELT pipelines.
  • AI Savvy: Hands-on experience using AI agents/LLMs (Claude, Cursor) to speed up development; ability to configure system rules and custom skills.
  • Database Deep-Dive: Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL and ClickHouse (OLAP).
  • Distributed Systems: Experience handling multiregional data (latency, residency, and synchronization challenges).
  • Technical Leadership: Experience mentoring senior engineers and leading architectural reviews.
  • Solid knowledge of TypeScript for data-related tools or internal platforms.
  • English proficiency — B2+ level.

Bonus Points:

  • Experience with Kafka Connect (custom connectors, complex transformations).
  • Background in fintech, neobanks, or highly regulated environments.
  • Knowledge of ClickHouse optimization and performance tuning at scale.
  • Experience integrating ML models into production systems.

The UMO Standard:

  • Dynamic Work Environment: Vibrant offices and strong local teams across Lisbon, Dubai, Kyiv, and Lviv — with openness to remote for the right fit.
  • Rest & Recovery: 24 days of annual leave, dedicated paid sick leave, and observance of Public Holidays to keep you at your best.
  • Recharge Week: After your first year with us, enjoy two consecutive 4-day work weeks annually — a built-in reset to help you sustain peak performance for the long run.
  • Full Setup: Top-of-the-line hardware and a home office stipend so you can do your best work anywhere.
  • Growth Ecosystem: A dedicated learning budget and a clear, accelerated path toward executive-level leadership within the UMO ecosystem.
  • Impact & Ownership: Your work directly shapes the product and company direction — not just executes it.
