With our headquarters in the UAE and offices in Portugal and Ukraine, we are united behind a shared ambition and a relentless focus on serving our customers.

About the Role

We are seeking a senior finance leader who combines strategic vision with hands-on execution to establish and grow the Finance Organization. As VP/Director of Finance, you will:

  • Build and operate the core financial infrastructure from the ground up (for both: crypto custody + exchange and traditional banking services).
  • Lead across five responsibility pillars: Financial Operations/Accounting, Treasury & Liquidity Management, Financial Planning & Reporting (FP&A), Pricing, Team Leadership.

This role is to grow into our future CFO. At the startup stage, you will be wearing two hats.

  • Leading the finance department teams, processes, structures, and systems needed for scale
  • Heading the Accounting & Fin. Ops. Function

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Operations & Accounting

  • Build and oversee end-to-end financial operations, including settlements, reconciliations, and ledger management across fiat, crypto, and investment products.
  • Manage relationships with liquidity providers, PSPs, Fireblocks, custodians, Visa/Mastercard, and settlement partners.
  • Establish and maintain accounting policies and processes (IFRS, UAE GAAP, crypto asset treatment).
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial close, consolidation, and reporting across multiple entities and currencies.
  • Oversee regulatory reporting, audits, and tax compliance (corporate tax, VAT, transfer pricing).
  • Implement strong internal controls and ensure audit-readiness at all times.

Treasury & Liquidity Management

  • Develop and execute the treasury strategy: cash management, liquidity buffers, and working capital optimization.
  • Oversee funds flow management across fiat, crypto, and cross-border payment rails.
  • Manage hedging strategies for FX and crypto exposure.
  • Monitor and optimize capital allocation and liquidity reserves in line with regulatory and business needs.
  • Set up treasury systems and reporting dashboards to give real-time visibility to management.
  • Collaborate with banks, EMIs, custodians, and partners to optimize settlement cycles and liquidity use.

Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)

  • Lead the budgeting, forecasting, and long-term planning cycles.
  • Build financial models and scenario analyses to support new product launches, strategic decisions, and growth planning.
  • Develop and track unit economics, profitability metrics, and cost drivers.
  • Provide clear dashboards and financial performance reporting to the CEO and leadership team.
  • Support capital allocation decisions to ensure disciplined and efficient use of resources.
  • Partner with Product, Compliance, and Tech to embed financial considerations into product design and business strategy.

Pricing

  • Design and oversee the pricing framework for products and services (payments, crypto exchange, investments).
  • Conduct profitability and sensitivity analyses to balance competitiveness with margin targets.
  • Establish discounting, fee structures, and cost allocation models.
  • Collaborate with Product and Strategy teams to test, evaluate, and optimize pricing models in line with market trends and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure pricing decisions are aligned with unit economics, customer acquisition, and long-term profitability goals.

Team Leadership & Culture

  • Build and lead a high-performing Finance team (Ops, Accounting, Treasury, FP&A).
  • Define roles, responsibilities, and career paths within the finance function.
  • Mentor and develop team members to ensure professional growth and succession readiness.
  • Foster a documentation-first and control-oriented culture that balances compliance with business enablement.
  • Act as a strategic partner to the CFO and executive leadership, providing financial insights and decision support.

Requirements:

  • Seniority: Proven track record in a senior finance leadership role (VP, Director, or equivalent) within highly regulated fintech environments.
  • Breadth of Finance Expertise: Demonstrated experience across key finance domains, including Financial Operations & Accounting, FP&A, Treasury, Pricing, and Financial Reporting.
  • Industry Background: Strong mix of experience in both FinTech startups/scale-ups and established financial services organizations.
  • Banking & Crypto: Hands-on experience in retail banking (digital or traditional) combined with exposure to crypto exchanges is highly preferred.
  • Regulatory Exposure: Direct interaction with UAE and EU regulators in digital banking and crypto (e.g., EMI, VASP, CASP, MiCA) is a significant advantage.
  • Accounting Standards: Deep and practical knowledge of IFRS.
  • Startup Build-Out: Proven success in building finance organizations, processes, systems, and policies from scratch in fast-growth fintech environments.
  • Leadership & Culture: High level of ownership, decisiveness, and strategic foresight. Thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth startup environment. Values integrity, mutual respect, and mission-driven execution. Comfortable building and leading globally distributed, multicultural teams.

Certificates & Languages:

  • CMA, CPA, CFA, ACCA preferred.
  • Background in Finance/Accounting.
  • Fluency in English required; proficiency in Russian or Ukrainian.

The UMO Standard:

  • Dynamic Work Environment: Vibrant offices and strong local teams across Lisbon, Dubai, Kyiv, and Lviv — with openness to remote for the right fit.
  • Rest & Recovery: 24 days of annual leave, dedicated paid sick leave, and observance of Public Holidays to keep you at your best.
  • Recharge Week: After your first year with us, enjoy two consecutive 4-day work weeks annually — a built-in reset to help you sustain peak performance for the long run.
  • Full Setup: Top-of-the-line hardware and a home office stipend so you can do your best work anywhere.
  • Growth Ecosystem: A dedicated learning budget and a clear, accelerated path toward executive-level leadership within the UMO ecosystem.
